President’s Message

Congratulations Tom Dietrich, ED night shift, new Co-Chief Steward! PMC is undergoing massive changes in the delivery of patient care that impacts numerous RNs. SHARED GOVERNANCE: PMC announced their desire to incentivize RNs to participate in the Voluntary On-Call Program [Article 10.14]. JNESO has proposed a Critical Shift Bonus in the past that would benefit ALL RNs, which PMC rejected. Raising this now is troubling and creates procedural issues. FLU VACCINE: A LHV-P RN was terminated for not receiving a vaccine. JNESO filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP); arbitration is scheduled for November. PACU: Management wanted Open Heart patients to be prepped for surgery in PACU by utilizing On-Call. After citing the problems with this change and Infection Control input, patients will now be prepped in the OR. To address the amount of On-Call PACU is doing; LHV-P is exploring the recovery of patients in ICU by the PACU On-Call RN. EBUS: SPU nurses and Techs have been assigned to assist in this OR procedure without the presence of an OR RN. JNESO has raised competency and safety concerns over RNs documenting in a system they have not been trained in; delivering patient care in an area they are not oriented to; operating and setting-up equipment without training. WHERE’S MY CONTRACT? Due to technical issues, the contract drafts have had problems interfacing. It’s still a work-in-progress.
DO NOT WORK AFTER CLOCKING OUT! Allegedly some supervisors are instructing nurses to clock-out then stay late to chart. This puts your license at risk! You are not protected if anything were to happen after clocking out, and accessing patient charts may be viewed as a HIPPA violation. Do not clock out until you are ready to leave!

WHY IS GUARANTEED TIME IMPORTANT?
Do you know what Article 8.3 of your Contract means?

You should, because your paycheck depends on it!

  • It’s the legally binding Article that ensures you have the right to work what you were hired for, whether that be 3, 5 or 6, or 10 days per pay period.
  • When you accepted a job at PMC they agreed there would be work for you.
  • Now, if patient census is low they can offer you the day off and you can take it or not, IT’S YOUR CHOICE [Article 10.10].
  • MANAGEMENT WANTS TO GET RID OF ARTICLE 8.3!!!
  • They want the ability to cancel you when THEY want….AS MUCH AS THEY WANT!
  • It won’t matter if you were canceled yesterday, they can cancel you again, and again tomorrow if they deem it necessary.
  • It won’t matter if it leaves your floor short staffed because there is “low census”.
  • It won’t matter about your seniority either… Supervisors will pick who stays home.
  • Oh and those benefits that they want to charge you double for now, well if you are canceled enough times YOU won’t QUALIFY FOR THEM ANYMORE.

Eye on Your Contract:

CALLED TO A MEETING? – Please remember to contact a JNESO Officer/Steward if called to a meeting that could result in discipline [no matter what that meeting is called i.e. root cause, peer review, team building, investigatory]! This is your right!
